The feature is called Mail Goggles and it works (once you have enabled it) by asking you if you really want to send the email and makes you solve a math problem before sending. Other wise it wont.
For those looking for it, log into Gmail, go to Settings and then the Labs tab and it is 2/3 down the page:
Google strives to make the world's information useful. Mail you send late night on the weekends may be useful but you may regret it the next morning. Solve some simple math problems and you're good to go. Otherwise, get a good night's sleep and try again in the morning. After enabling this feature, you can adjust the schedule in the "General" settings page. Two things come to mind. First, this won't help stopping drunken Mensa members. Second, for the math inclined who can't solve equations sober, its not fair.
I think they should come out with options for what users can select as problem solving categories. Like Trivial Pursuit. Select 1980s trivia and then user sets whether they want novice or advanced questions. What pop star hair caught fire while filming a commercial for Pespi?
Mail Goggles. Clever idea. But needs version 1.1.
Now if Motorola and LG and so on could enable a feature for slowing down drunken texting at 3am...
