Not totally photo related, not just a journal. A bit of both.

No internet for 12 hours makes me twitchy

In Oxide We Rust

I said I was going to blog the other day. Didn't get around to it. On Friday a large earthquake hit ChristChurch, NZ where a relative of mine lives. She is ok, but the city is a mess. Then another friend of mine in Oslo disappeared off Flickr. No emails back from either initially. But both are ok.

Later on the weekend, after taking some cool images of Kait and Jen on Friday, and shooting some portraits on Saturday, I was reading up on Wordpress and messing around with Torrents.

I installed uTorrent at Mal's suggestion. Sadly Norton didnt like it. And despite my allowing it to connect on all ports, Norton kept popping up about every two seconds multiple times asking for permissions. I barely moved the mouse and then another Norton alert. It was frustrating. It would go away and then return five mins later. Eventually I shut it off.

Yesterday, after emailing someone who decided to leave a large comment image on one of my Flickr photos of Jaclyn - the comment image was larger than my image itself - my internet winked out. Classic Limited or No Connectivity. Not pulling an IP. It's not my router though I am allowed to use it, so I was patient. 12 hours in and still no routing this morning when I woke up around 0700hrs.

As I wrote this last night - in the venerable Notepad, I was watching "Build it Bigger" on Discovery Civ. Host Danny Forster is, well, such a douche. I am pretty sure he thinks he is funny. But neither the crew on the US destroyer Donald Cook, nor the workers in the Bath Ironworks shipyard where another warship was being assembled thought he was funny. It was barely surpressed derrision and disgust on some of their faces at his incompetence. Certainly not respect. One guy in the shipyard said "quit yer whining" at one point. A PO on the Cook told him he was launching a torpedo from a deck launcher and he really beleived he was. Right to pressing the trigger on the launcher and the airpressure went off and it scared the crap out of him. And the assembled crew watching were laughing their asses off.

Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs might come off as being goofy at times - and has some bad luck with snakes and forklifts now n then, but given the things he has done, you have to admit he is a pretty talented guy.

This guy seems to be taking after Mike. Not exactly the same concept. Certainly not the same guy. And the writers - if there are any, are giving him lines to deliver that he just can't.

Best part was when he was in a rigid inflatable and he lost his glasses overboard. Schadenfreude.

wow i seriously cant agree more about forster. in fact i got to this page after googleing "danny forster douche" thinking there has got to be other people who thought the same about the guy.

i watched an episode of exteme engineering for the first time, will never again due to him. his "jokes" are arrogant patronisations half the time and simply out of place the other half. cant believe discovery is keeping him on.
